A Little About Mesquite Nevada and Southern Utah History and Golf

The modern history of the City of Mesquite began in the mid 1800’s as much of the West was being explored and settled. The Old Spanish Trail and the Mormon Road passed through Mesquite along the Virgin River. The earliest European-American settlements in the region, such as St. George and Las Vegas, sprang up as Mormon outposts at water sources along the trail.

St. George, the county seat of Washington County, is the largest of all the towns founded during the LDS Church's Cotton Mission of 1861. Other cities include Washington and Hurricane. Since the 1960s, St. George has continued to grow as a retirement location and as a haven for "snowbirds" seeking to escape from the colder winters in the rest of the state. Tourism and recreation have become primary industries for St. George.
